Few days ago we wrote a post about a few interesting options if you were in the market for a studio apartment for rent, priced at under $2,000 per month, and looking to settle in either on the Upper East Side, Upper West Side, Lower East Side, Greenwich Village, or SoHo. To qualify for such apartment, your annual income would have to be of about 40x the monthly rent, which equals to $80,000. Now, what about if you are a recent graduate, on your first job, and making about $50K per annum?
Well, in this case Manhattan may not be the place for you, unless you consider going much further uptown, or have a guarantor (making x80 the monthly rent). But there is another option: find yourself a roommate in a similar situation and share a well priced 2 bedroom with her. In your (and her) $50K case, this would be a 2 bedroom priced at or below $2,500 per month (2x $50K = $100K => 40x $2,500). If that works for you, here are your options:
EAST VILLAGE:
2BR at 32 East 7th Street: $2,500
EAST VILLAGE:
2BR at 34 East 7th Street: $2,490
EAST HARLEM:
2BR at 1641 Park Avenue: $2,375
UPPER EAST SIDE:
2BR at 314 East 91st Street: $2,295
UPPER EAST SIDE:
2BR at 514 East 84th Street: $2,150
Please note: apartment availability is always subject to change without notice; apartments are usually still available at the time we make the post, but in New York it is a matter of hours, not days, when they get rented. When contacting the management company, always ask for comparable options. Good luck in your search!
